Summary

This report considers the concept of dyslexia in the context of current research in the area of literacy learning in general and the difficlties that can arise in the development of word reading and special skills. Key Stages 1 and 2 within the National Cirriculum in the UK (children aged about 5-11 years) are its primary focus but the report has implications beyond this age range. The report is based on extensive consultation with practising educational psychologists and leading academic researchers in this field. It provides an illustration of the way educational psychology considers practice in relation to theory and research.
